MD-PhD Student, Yilun Ma, Awarded NIH F30 Grant

Yilun Ma, fifth year student in the Tri-Institutional MD-PhD Program, has been awarded an F30 grant from the National Institutes of Health. The award will support Mr. Ma's research in the White Lab at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where he is currently working toward his PhD.

In particular, this grant will support his project “In vivo characterization of keratinocytes in the melanoma microenvironment" which Mr. Ma described in greater context and detail: "The tumor microenvironment plays a critical role in melanoma proliferation and invasion. Keratinocytes are the most abundant cells in the microenvironment of early-stage melanomas, but their role is poorly characterized in vivo. My project aims to elucidate the role of microenvironmental keratinocytes in melanoma progression, using the zebrafish as a model system, by examining the effect of keratinocyte adhesion and paracrine signaling.”
