Welcome from Tri-I Students

Hello from the students of the Tri-I Program!

We hope that you take a moment to explore our website and learn more about our program and our community here in Manhattan.

We are a diverse group of aspiring physician-scientists who come from many backgrounds and walks of life: some of us came straight from college, some of us worked as research technicians following our undergraduate studies, and some of us worked as professionals in other fields before deciding to pursue our MD-PhD training here at the Tri-I. We each bring our own experiences and perspectives to the Tri-I community, and we hope that you will join us and bring yours too.

We are thrilled to call New York City our home. Our campus on 69th Street and York Avenue consists of three premier biomedical institutions – Weill Cornell Medicine, The Rockefeller University, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. MD-PhD students can choose to complete the PhD portion of their training at any of these three institutions. Our MD training occurs through Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM), which is affiliated with the broader NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital (NYP) system. In addition to the clinical training at NYP-WCM, students at Weill Cornell Medicine are also able to engage in clinical or research opportunities at the neighboring Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) and Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), the Cornell Tech campus on Roosevelt Island, and the Brooklyn, Queens, and Westchester NYP campuses. The diversity of clinical and research opportunities here is almost limitless!

Even with all this in one neighborhood, many students in our community take part in diverse interests and activities. MD-PhD students are active leaders in student-run community health groups, such as the Weill Cornell Community Clinic, Wellness Qlinic, and Heart2Heart. We also maintain a number of student groups that reflect our diverse backgrounds and interests, such as ADePT, Tri-I AWSM, QUIPS, Music in Medicine, and many more. To facilitate community-building in our large program in an even larger city, we established a House system that promotes social connections and mentorship across all years in the program. And of course, we have an unparalleled number of possibilities to explore across NYC! Off campus, students enjoy going to Broadway shows, museums, concerts, comedy nights, baseball games, taking group trips to go hiking, skiing and climbing, and eating food from all over the world. These many opportunities for personal, social, and community growth ensure our training at the Tri-I is as enriching as it is successful.

Thank you for your interest in our program – the Tri-I is an incredible place to live, train, and grow, and we all feel so lucky to be in such a vibrant city on our journey towards becoming MD-PhDs. We hope to welcome you to this program someday!
