MD-PhD Student Recieves NIH F-30 Grant

Stefan Torborg, 5th year MD-PhD student, has been awarded an F-30 grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH)'s National Cancer Institute.

Stefan's award will support his research in the Tammela lab at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center where his work aims to characterize the heterogeneity of proliferating and quiescent cancer cell populations in lung adenocarcinoma
and investigate the role of Wnt signaling in maintaining distinct proliferative states. As Mr. Torborg explained: "Heterogeneity in cancer cells is a clinically important but poorly understood property of tumors that has the potential to explain tumor growth, treatment relapse, metastasis and other cancer behaviors," and completion of his project "will enhance our understanding of the mechanisms tumors use to develop cellular diversity, which may suggest strategies for improving cancer treatment."
