MD-PhD Student Awarded F-30 Grant from NHLBI

Alexandra Miller, a sixth year student in the Tri-Institutional MD-PhD Program, has been awarded an F-30 grant from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI)

This award will support Ms. Miller's research in the Ehrt Lab in Weill Cornell Medicine's Immunology and Microbial Pathogenesis program. Her project develops a novel reporter system to identify iron uptake genes in mycobacteria, the causative agent of tuberculosis disease, and characterizes the role of these genes in mycobacterial persistence and antibiotic resistance. This technology will advance the field by probing mycobacterial genetic requirements in vivo, which has traditionally been challenging, and will elucidate mechanisms of nutritional immunity that underlie mycobacterial persistence.
