The Female Association for Clinicians, Educators, and Scientists (FACES), in collaboration with Gerstner Women in Science (GWIS) at Gerstner Sloan Kettering Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, hosted a presentation and workshop with Dr.
Katharine Hsu, M.D., Ph.D., a 1994 graduate of the Tri-Institutional MD-PhD Program, is the recipient of the 2019 WCGS Distinguished Alumnus Award. 
The Tri-Institutional MD-PhD Program leadership and students are excited to tell you about a new MD-PhD student-led initiative to create a "House System” with the goal of fostering mentorship and community within the MD-PhD program. Other than the annual retreat, many students felt that there were not enough opportunities to get to know MD-PhD students who are enrolled in different years. The Houses are thus introduced to address this concern.
In late 2018 a group of Tri-I MD-PhD students officially launched The Association of Diverse Physician-Scientists in Training (ADePT) as an organization for students from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in science and medicine. Four students, together with faculty advisor Marcus Goncalves, MD, PhD, of WCM, comprise the inaugural leadedrship team of the group.
As has been previously announced, 2018 saw the departure of long time Administrative Director, Dr. Ruth Gotian. Though we took the news with heavy hearts, we are excited to see Ruth move on to new and exciting positions here at Weill Cornell Medicine.
In August of 2018, Catharine Boothroyd, PhD, joined Tri-I as the new Administrative Director. This marks the beginning of an exciting new era for the Program and a return to the Tri-Institutional campus for Catharine, who earned her PhD and did a post-doc at Rockefeller.From Dr. Boothroyd:
The results of the 2019 Residency Match Day were overwhelmingly positive for the Tri-Institutional MD-PhD graduating students who entered the Match. All eight of them were matched at some of the most prestigious programs and leading hostpitals in the country. Below we list the graduates with the field and institution of their residency.

Barbara "Bobbie" Pelham-Webb, currently in her fifth year in the Tri-Institutional MD-PhD Program, has been awarded an F30 Fellowship from the National Institute of Healths' Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD).
Professor Barbara Kazmierczak, MD, PhD (Tri-Institutional MD-PhD class of 1994), who currently is professor of medicine (infectious diseases) and microbial pathogenesis, has been named the Gustavus and Louse Pfeiffer Research Foundation MD-PhD Program Director at the Yale School of Medicine.
