The work of Dr. Darren Orcbach, MD, PhD and Dr. Peter Weinstock, MD, PhD, both members of the Tri-I graduating class of 1998, made possible the first successful fetal intracranial intervention earlier this month. Denver Coleman was diagnosed with life-threatening Vein of Galen Malformation (VOGM) and was treated in utero by Dr. Orbach, the first time such a procedure was done.
Dr. Alex Gitlin (Tri-I MD-PhD graduating class of 2017) was recently named a recipient of a 2022 NIH Director's Early Independence Award. Dr. Gitlin, who joined the faculty at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in the fall of 2022, was given the award in support of his project Regulation of Proinflammatory Cytokine Responses by a Caspase-8-N4BP1 Axis.
On April 10, 2022, the Association of American Physicians (AAP) elected the group of scientists, physicians, and physician-scientists as new members. The group of honorees includes Tri-I MD-PhD Program alumni and faculty, including:Kiran Musunuru (Tri-I MD-PhD graduating class of 2004)Daniel Reich (Tri-I MD-PhD graduating class of 2001)Katharine Hsu (Tri-I MD-PhD graduating class of 1994 and current Tri-I MD-PhD Director)
Match Day, 2022, saw all 22 of the graduating Tri-I MD-PhD students match for a residency. The graduates will be going to some of the leading hospitals and residency programs in the country this summer to begin the next stage of their training.The 2022 MD-PhD matches were:
Randy Longman, MD, PhD, was elected as a member of The American Society for Clinical Investigation. Dr.
Freddy E. Escorcia, Tri-I MD-PhD graduating class of 2012 and currently a researcher at the National Cancer Institute, has been named among the 2021 Lasker Scholars by a joint project of the Lasker Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. 
Katie Hisert, MD, PhD, (Tri-I MD-PhD graduating class of 2006), discusses her, somewhat surprising recent ascendencay to Social Media Activist combatting the spread of misinformation regarding COVID-19.
On October 19, 2020 the National Academy of Medicine announced the election of its new members for this year. Included among the 90 distinguished doctors are two Tri-Institutional MD-PhD alumni, Wendy K. Chung, M.D., PhD (Tri-I graduating class of 1998) and David E. Fisher, PhD, MD  (Tri-I graduating class of 1985).
Dr. Clark Fisher, MD, PhD, (Tri-I MD-PhD graduating class of 2017), currently at Yale University, has developed a ventilator circuit that can support two patients with individualized peak inspiratory and end-expiratory pressures. Dr. Fisher's project addresses the current shortage of ICU ventilators experienced by hospitals across the United States and the world with a a low-cost, off the shelf solution to stretch the limited resources available.
Dr. M. Elizabeth Ross, MD, PhD, member of the Tri-Institutional MD-PhD graduating class of 1982, is a co-senior author on a recent Nature Genetics paper identifying a genetic cause for a "mosaic" disorder. This heretofore poorly understood disorder causes abnormalities in the skin, brain, and beyond.
